Local Lubbock Information

Most of Texas can use the "Two Step Method" of fire ant control quite effectively. This involves broadcasting insecticidal baits over entire lawns or other areas, and then following up with individual mound treatments.

However, because fire ants tend to be restricted to the edges of sidewalks, other concrete or brick barriers, or flower beds in the Lubbock area, most of us can get by with using only individual mound treatments. This will probably be adequate for most residential homes.

The exception to this is in areas where grass or other vegetation has been very well watered and is lush and green. Because water is not limiting, fire ants may be distributed throughout these areas. In this case, the "Two Step Method" would be more appropriate than simple mound treatments.
