Fire ants have been in the City of Lubbock since at least 1984 and have spread since then. Dr. Harlan Throvilson, Entomologist at Texas Tech University, conducted a city-wide survey in the fall of 2005, and his map is reprinted below. Fire ants have spread since this map was created, and fire ants may be present in areas where they did not show up on the 2005 survey.
