LUBBOCK – South Plains 4-H’ers who have completed clothing and textiles projects this year will gather Sept. 22 at the Texas Tech Human Sciences Building to compete in the 2001 Fashion Show.
The event begins at 10 a.m.
“These youngsters represent 4-H clubs from the 20 counties in our district. These 4-H’ers earn the right to compete in the district show by winning fashion awards in their home counties,” said Brad Davis, Extension 4-H program specialist based at Lubbock.
This year’s show will include two competition categories -- construction and buying. The construction division emphasizes sewing and construction skills, and garment appearance. In the buying division, entries are judged on appearance, quality of workmanship, wardrobe, coordination, appropriateness of care requirements, and the use of comparison shopping techniques.
There are four classes of competition in each category: casual; dressy; specialty; and embellished-recycled – a new competition class.
Afternoon activities will take place at the South Plains Fairgrounds, beginning at 2 p.m. with the Fashion Follies on the outdoor stage between the Merchants and Womens Buildings.
The theme of this year’s Fashion Follies is “4-H Clothing Carnival.”
During this event, 4-H’ers who participated in the morning competition
will take the stage alongside other junior and senior club members who
completed a clothing and textiles project this year. They will model their
projects in three classes; purchased, constructed, or recycled-embellished.
