Ranch Estate Planning Seminar Set in August

COLLEGE STATION – Texans can learn how to reduce their estate taxes and make effective estate planning decisions at an Aug. 4-5 Ranch Estate Planning Seminar at the College Station Conference Center.
“This seminar will focus on how to make wise ranch estate planning decisions,” said Dr. Wayne A. Hayenga, Texas Cooperative Extension economist-management. “The information is useful for married couples, spouses, potential estate executors, trustees, and those who want to make estate settlement less burdensome.”
The 1½ day seminar will run concurrently with Texas A&M University’s 48th annual Beef Cattle Short Course and Trade Show, slated on August 5-7.
The Ranch Estate Planning Seminar will cover:
• Basic estate planning devices such as wills, living trusts, estate
tax deferral, gifts and property titles.
• How to treating beneficiaries fairly.
• Estate planning tools for agriculture, including the use of corporations
and partnerships; special farm land valuation; family-owned business exclusion;
and rules for deferring estate tax payments.
• The role of life insurance in estate planning, and tax valuation
rules.
Hayenga is an attorney as well as an Extension economist. He works extensively with farmers, ranchers and family-owned firms in financial, business and estate tax planning.
The seminar runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 4 (including a light snack), and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on August 5 (including lunch). Registration costs $100 per person and includes printed materials, refreshments, and meal.
