South Plains 4-H Youth Camp Builds Outdoor Living Skills

LUBBOCK--The Texas 4-H Center's Leadership Experience Adventure Program is offering a
certification training in the American Camping Association's Outdoor Living Skills this summer.
The hands on educational experience will be held at Scott Able 4-H Camp near Cloudcroft,
New Mexico, June 23-27.

"Participants will learn minimum impact camping skills, outdoor cookery, hygiene, safety while
camping, map and compass and much more," said Drew Pickle, Texas 4-H Outdoor Living
Skills Coordinator.

The summer camp costs $165 per person. Applications are due by May 21 to county Extension
offices. The fee includes food, lodging, equipment rental, curriculum text and program fees.

"We're seeking young men and women to attend the camp from the High Plains and South Plains
of Texas," said Brad Davis, Extension Program Specialist - 4H, based in Lubbock.
"Participants must be at least 14 years of age and have an interest in outdoor living skills.
They must be willing to participate as a team member for the week long event."

The camp will accommodate 14 students.

"Upon completion of the trip, participants will be program leaders in the OLS program.
Individuals completing the training will be certified to teach and lead this program for youth and
adults," noted Angela Burkham, Extension Program Specialist - 4-H, based in Amarillo.
