LUBBOCK – Those who are interested in growing winter forages on the
High Plains can
update their knowledge of small grain forages and see the results of
ongoing forage variety trials
at a May 1 turn-row meeting at Texas A&M University’s Agricultural
Research and Extension
Center here.
“This an excellent opportunity for producers, stock raisers and industry
folks to walk through our
plots and make first-hand comparisons,” said Calvin Trostle, Texas
Cooperative Extension
agronomist based at Lubbock. “Each of our field trials includes up
to 30 forage varieties. We
will discuss the pros and cons of what we see in the field, as well
as production techniques for
winter forages.”
The turn-row meeting will run from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The field trials
are adjacent to the center.
The center is ½ mile east of Interstate 27 on FM 1294 (Exit
11 on the interstate).
“County Extension agents in are helping us bring this information to
producers...information that has
regional appeal/application from San Angelo to Lubbock, or from Abilene
to the New Mexico-Texas
state line,” Trostle said.
Those who attend the can qualify for up to 1.5 Continuing Education
Units (CEU’s), including
one-half CEU in Integrated Pest Management, Trostle said.
