The Cooperative Extension Service is part of the Texas A&M University System. Our mission is to make research-based information available to the citizens of Texas. Many people associate us with "County Extension Agents" or the 4-H program. We are this and much more. We do have personnel who help farmers and ranchers make management decisions based on the latest scientific information, but we also serve other people. Some of us are Family and Consumer Science agents who provide information on many aspects of living. We are also economists, safety specialists, engineers, secretaries, soil scientists, plant pathologists, and other things.

Agents and Specialists are faculty members of the Texas A&M University System. Most county-based agents have Master's Degrees in one of the sciences. For example, Integrated Pest Management agents have advanced degrees in Weed Science, Plant Pathology, or Entomology. These personnel can call upon Specialists, who usually have Ph.D. degrees.

Some of our personnel are located in College Station, the home of Texas A&M. However, the vast majority of us live and work in counties and communities all over Texas. Because we are part of Texas A&M System, we are in a unique position to draw on the knowledge and resources of our institutions. However, we also make College Station aware of local and regional needs so that the University can address these issues with research and education.

This website was established to help homeowners access High Plains water conservation information. We realize that more and more people are using the Web, and we want to provide easy access to quality information. However, the Web is not an end, it is a beginning. Please call or visit us. We even make house calls.
