Peanut Breeding and Genetics

The primary goal of the Peanut Breeding and Genetics Program at the Texas A&M Agricultural Research and Extension Center at Lubbock is to develop superior varieties that are competitive in yield and have improved quality characteristics. Though collaborative projects, we are working on development of disease-resistant and abiotic stress-tolerant germplasm to reduce the costs of production to growers. In addition, we are studying the genetics of these traits to improve efficiency in breeding through development and use of molecular markers.
